Braces – I got them almost two months ago! What pushed me to having them installed by my long-time dentist was that I wanted a nicer smile on my graduation pic. Next semester, I will be on my junior year in college and yes, I am going to graduate on time in two years. As they say, “fake it til you make it”, right?
Also, it turns out I was all wrong. The thing about braces is that it’s not actually a bad dental experience having them installed on your teeth but what happens after is the real challenge. Your eating habits would change. You have to avoid foods that are too crispy and hard to swallow. That means no nuts and crackers and popcorn and crispy fried chicken! As for me, I was left with no choice but eat soup, oatmeal, and soft bread for a few straight days. Lucky for me, I have my Mom who cooked for me and she actually went through it with me. You also have to bear with the food that get stuck on your braces after eating. Gahd, it actually takes me a long time to remove each one of them sometimes. Lol. I’m lucky, though, that I got used to it for just a few weeks and I also had no mouth sore experiences. I’ve heard from an Australian friend of mine that it took more than a month for her to get used to it and that she had sores all over her gums. That’s just not cool!
Anyways, I’m glad I have it because I know it’ll be worth it. In the end, everything just is, right?
Here is me and my #ootd on the exact day I had it! Such an awkward smile!
I’d love to hear your braces experiences in the comments below! Also, to those of you who don’t have one, are you planning to? What encourages you to do so?
