Hi, loves! I am currently counting down to our Boracay trip in just less than two weeks and I can’t even explain how excited I am. As some of you may know from my Instagram and Twitter, I am having my internship right now even though my previous semester just ended two weeks ago. I can definitely feel my #adulting life already and I am pretty sure that this Boracay adventure will be my mini-break from everything that’s been going on in my life. I still haven’t packed though! But today, for this post, I’m sharing with you something that I’ll probably bring with me to my trip (or just put a little amount of it in a disposable shampoo bottle so it wouldn’t take up too much space of baggage) – the Selsun Blue anti-dandruff shampoo.
What is dandruff and what causes it?
Dandruff is the flakes of dead skin that form on your scalp. It’s the white flakes that we hate because it’s all over our scalp or has fallen off our shoulders. It also annoys most of us because of the itching, redness, and irritation that it causes. But what really causes dandruff? It
But what really causes dandruff? It is said that it is a common condition that every one of us may normally have but research says that it may become chronic to 1 out of 5 persons. According to Selsun Blue’s website, dandruff may be caused by one or any of the following:
- Fungi (Malassezia Globossa). Naturally on the skin surface of almost everyone but may sometimes grow out of control. This may then irritate the skin especially when there are too many skin cells growing up.
- Dry Skin. Cold and dry conditions may trigger itching and flaking.
- Psoriasis. Accumulation of dead skin cells causing the formation of thick, silvery scales.
- Contact Dermatitis (Sensitivity to haircare products). Some people have sensitivities to the products that they use in the hair especially if they overuse them.
- Not shampooing often enough. Hygiene is the key, loves, and if some people have a problem with being over-sensitive with using products, then some may not be caring for their hair enough to clean it often.
So with all this being said, what do we have to do when we have it? We have to treat as immediately as possible.
What is Selsun Blue and why should we use it?
I recommend it simply because it worked for me. However, it must be said that what worked for me may not work for you although sometimes, we have to give things a try so we’ll know.
Selsun Blue is an over-the-counter medicated shampoo that deals against dandruff. It has the Selenium Sulfide chemical that is an effective anti-infective and anti-fungal that relieves the itching and flaking of the scalp. In other words, it solves the dandruff condition. It’s also nice to know that it is US FDA-approved which means it’s proven to be safe and effective.
The Selsun Blue shampoo has two kinds – the medicated and the 2-in-1 with conditioner. I’ve tried the latter since I don’t have severe dandruff and it worked for me. I felt my scalp fresh and light after using it although it has a medicated smell. No worries because in just a few minutes after drying my hair, the weird smell was already gone. Of course, I also checked to see if there are still any white flakes on my hair and I seriously cannot see one. The conditioner also made my hair softer which makes it better for me!
Why am I bringing it with me on my trip and why am I recommending it then? Simple answer. As you may have read, cold and dry conditions trigger dandruff. As of now, here in the Philippines, the morning’s and noon’s would entail a hot weather and then the rain often comes on the afternoon’s or evening’s. The sudden change of weather could not only affect your health but also your hair. For a person who really cares for her hair like me, I do think that it is important to use a haircare product that wouldn’t fail in giving me a healthier hair and healthier scalp. Selsun Blue did that for me.
Also for further information about Selsun Blue, you may check out their Facebook page or their website. You may buy it in the nearest Mercury Drug or Watsons store! As always, thanks for reading, love!
